Peacock Acquires Clueless Series Reboot

After word initially broke last October that CBS TV Studios had begun development on a series reboot of Clueless , Variety has brought word that NBCUniversal’s fresh streaming platform Peacock has acquired the project, which will focus on the character of Dionne, formerly portrayed by Stacey Dash in the original film.

The untitled series is being described as a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sun-glasses wearing, oat milk latte and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong number two Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans. How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend?

The series will be written by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey ( Will & Grace ). American Gothic and No Tomorrow creator Corinne Brinkerhoff will executive produce alongside her development executive Tiffany Grant. Brinkerhoff currently has an overall deal at CBS TV Studios, who are still attached to produce the Clueless movie producer Robert Lawrence will also EP the series.

CBS TV Studios owns the rights to the Clueless movie from Paramount, which also starred Alicia Silverstone (Cher), Brittany Murphy, and Paul Rudd. The studio’s predecessor, Paramount Network Television, produced the 1996 half-hour comedy series created by feature director Amy Heckerling.
